Holiday gift ideas from July 24 meeting

Members brought in ideas of small items which could be made for holiday gifts.

 Add a strip of holiday fabric to make your gift bags pop!

 Have some mens' ties you no longer need or want?

 Turn them into a wine or other bottle carrier or gift bag.

 Nothing cheers up a holiday table more than holiday fabric napkins, just hem and go!

 Use the design in a holiday print as your quilting guide. Use batting and a solid back and quilt away. Bind and you're done. Holiday place mat.

 Stay hydrated! Cut out a circle, ease a cylinder of fabric onto it, add straps and a lining and you're done.

 Hot beverage sleeves take only a scrap of fabric and can be given around a cup with a gift card inside.

Cut out the shape, put zipper then batting a center strip and line. Great holiday gift.

Naper Settlement activity July 27

Fun activity in Naperville Settlement this weekend. A member of our guild, Ruth Hild, will be doing the quilting part of Trades Day on Sunday, July 27 from 1 to 4.

June 26, 2014 Meeting - the Quilts from International Quilt Exposition

Our meeting started off with Catherine Redford showing us her photos of our quilts at the International Quilt Exposition in Rosemont. Didn't we do a great job?

February meeting

No excuses for not updating our blog before today... but here we are... a gallery of show and tell from our February meeting!

First up was our Ugly Fabric Challenge. Everyone had a fat quarter of fabric donated by Gentler Times. Most of us didn't think the fabric was that ugly!

Nan had made a little piece that looked like a cat in the grass.

Anita brought a landscape quilt featuring the fabric in her strata.

 Nancy made a table runner with a pieced back

  

Jen's pieced table mats were still under construction.

Maureen made sure to add only fabrics she had in her stash at home.

Yvette also used up scraps,

and made a wonderful pieced back.

Nancy made a pincushion, complete with covered button.

Pat made a bag with Marimekko fabric and used the ugly fabric inside,

 Jane had two quilts. One with circles,

and one with stars.

Kathy used the fabric for the binding on her bag and also made a zipped pouch and a Kleenex cover!

And finally, Catherine's table runner used a slice and insert technique to echo the feathers in the fabric.

                                                             

Next we had a discussion on the progress we had each made on our Modern in the City challenge. Only Catherine had her entry at the meeting.

We are looking forward to seeing all the others at our March meeting!

So then we had some general Show and Tell...

Jackie brought her scrappy top she had made for a wedding gift.

It came with a back that Valli had put together from Jackie's odd blocks.

Jen brought a little quilt that she said was inspired by Tula Pink's Lollipop Explosion. Lots of yo-yos!

Maureen had two baby quilts.

Nancy had finished the quilt she started in Jacquie Gering's class at Riverwalk Quilt Guild.

Kathy had a big cosy quilt to show.

Catherine had brought the quilt she made for the Modern Quilt Guild's Riley Blake Challenge.

That was a lot to look at!

We finish out with a demo from Yvette on making half square triangles. She showed us lots of different methods and then other people shared their top tips.

A good evening was had by all.
