September meeting

It's been a while but we did meet in September... and we have the pics to prove it!

Let's start with our banner in its permanent position at Gentler Times.

Then I tried to take some snaps of our fun members...

Svetlana and Faith smiled nicely.

But others studiously ignored me and my camera!

We started show and tell with  the results of our Scrap Challenge. Ruth had a couple of tops to show.

Joan had a little tag blanket.

Kathy seemed to have some big scraps available for her quilts?

Jen B. had a little improv piece.

Nancy L. had a blue and yellow table runner featuring pinwheel blocks,

and an improvised piece

with a vintage fabric backing.

Svetlana had a scrappy pillow cover.

Kimberley had used her South African fabric scraps and made a quilt of huts!

Bert showed us her table runner and wall hanging made with black and white and yellow fabrics.

And that was it for the challenge so we moved into our "general stuff"...

Yvette had been busy making Christmas items.

And one for Halloween!

Pat had her completed hexie bag.

Anita had made two improv pieces inspired by the fields around her home.

Svetlana brought her Pinkie Pie quilt. That's one lucky daughter at her house getting to have that on her bed!

Sharon had been busy with a quilt top and a table runner to show us.

This is Merris (sorry about the spelling?) and her hexagon quilt.

Kimberley had brought a table runner.

And last up was Cheryl with two manipulated pieces she had made for her spot on Quilting Arts TV.

Didn't everyone do well? They had a very productive month!

Last month we had asked for a volunteer to teach us some curved piecing techniques. Joan graciously agreed to come prepared and she had some great tricks to simplify the process. No pins needed!

Thanks Joan! I am looking forward to seeing what people have done with what they learnt...

And that was September. Our next meeting is October 24th, 6.00pm at Gentler Times. Hope to see you  there!

August Meeting

I missed the last two meetings so it was great to actually get to be at our gathering last night and catch up with everyone at Gentler Times. We started with another discussion on the National Modern Quilt Guild....then it was time for our door prize drawing. Tracey was very happy when her ticket was drawn.

Next up was the "black and white with one color" challenge.

Chris showed her french braid window shade.

Ruth had a purse complete with pockets and fringe and all!

Nancy made this lovely little piece with lime highlights. It had two little eyes in it and was called Here's Looking at you!

Svetlana brought this super pillow.

Jane had a zipped pouch and a table runner, another cool use of lime.

I had a yoyo pillow with a touch of orange.

I seem to have missed Yvette's project but it was very cute... What a great selection of projects!

General show and tell came next. Tracey kept me in line, reminding me to take pictures this time...

So we have Chris again with this little squares piece.

Jen had taken a class with Sara Lawson and made this bag. She extolled the virtues of Annie's Soft and Stable to make a nice firm body that stands upright all on its own.

Svetlana brought a sweet little foundation-paper-pieced trivet from Patchwork Please!

Yvette was in the sun light while she showed us a Christmas table runner from Asdis Eria's book My Runners Keep Going,

and a crib sized quilt, There's One in Every Crowd.

Kimberly brought a huge selvage quilt,

and here's our great big banner for anyone who hadn't seen it before.

That's a lot of pictures.

We didn't have a curved piecing demo because nobody had volunteered but the good news is we now  have a volunteer for next month. Without the demo we decided to change our next challenge to a scrap bag challenge... Projects should be made entirely from scraps but can be any size or shape.

See you in September!

April Meeting

Those Log Cabin quilts are looking good! We had a couple more to admire this month.

One from Cheryl,

and one from Maureen,

The back deserves viewing too!

I think we are done with the Log Cabin challenge now but we will look forward to seeing them on more public display soon. Don't forget to get your registration in. You can e-mail Cheryl or Catherine if you lost the link.

Next up we had our hexagon reveal.

Svetlana had a super cute pin cushion,

Nancy had a bright modern flower garden with some clever leaves around the edge,

Yvette brought her bag in progress,

I'm afraid I can't remember who was hiding behind this one!!

This fun clock was a present to one of the group...

and Catherine had made a new little hexie quilt.

We moved on to regular show and tell...

Our hostess Nicole, from Gentler Times, had her very first quilt to share with us. Those are mustaches added to each square.

Faith has quilts in the latest editions of Modern Quilts Unlimited and Love of Quilting!

Bert brought a table runner made from a Moda Comma charm pack,

and this new little quilt.

Ruth had her copy of the latest Quilt Art Engagement Calendar for 2014 with her quilt in March.

We have such talented members but that is where my camera ran out of charge. If anyone has any more pictures do send them to me and we can add them to our gallery!!

We ended our time together with a charm square exchange. Sixteen people took part so we have an interesting selection to work with.

Projects are due at our June meeting.

We are looking forward to demos from Ruth and Svetlana in May, along with a look at our favorite bag patterns.
